What Voices are you Listening To?

As a child, I remember watching Looney Tunes cartoons. In those cartoons, sometimes there would be a moment where a character was trying to make a decision, and when they did, a little angel and devil would appear on each shoulder, speaking into their ear, each opposing the other. Sometimes the good voice would be listened to, and other times the bad voice would be listened to.

While that might be a simple kids cartoon, I believe it's actually a significant picture of what takes place in our lives every day. The enemy is desperately trying to confuse us and he does it in so many ways. He uses voices from our past, our childhood, our mistakes, the media, the internet and the culture around us. He can be like a little devil, sitting on our shoulder, whispering, and sometimes shouting those messages in our ear.

But, in spite of that, we have a loving Father who is also speaking His truth into our lives through the Holy Spirit. He is always there and always speaking, but if you're anything like me, I don't always hear it, because I hear the voice of the enemy more.

The reasons for this are many and varied. And if you are like me and struggle to hear the Father's voice over the voice of the enemy at times, then know that I understand, sympathise with you and don't condemn you in any way for it, and neither does God. His desire for each of us is that we walk in the true freedom we are created to when we listen to His voice and His voice alone.

If you resonate with what I'm sharing today, can I make a suggestion of an activity that you can do?

1. Write and/or draw the things the enemy has been trying to say to you. If this is something you have been finding hard, then I'm sure it will be easy to identify those things. You could either make a list, or draw a picture representing what the enemy is saying.

2. Write and/or draw what the Father is saying to you. You could do that in one of the following ways:

๐Ÿ“– Write a letter from God to you

๐Ÿ“– Make a list of Scriptures that match what God is saying

๐Ÿ“– Create a compilation of prophetic words that you have received

3. Once you have done these things, do something that represents your decision to only listen to His voice. Maybe you could burn the things the enemy have been saying in a fire, or you can tear it up and throw it in the rubbish, or something else that is meaningful to you.

PRAYER

Thank you Father that you love to speak to us, and that you are always speaking. We acknowledge that at times it can be hard to hear your voice for many reasons. We ask that in your grace and mercy that you meet us where we are at, drown out the voice of the enemy and replace it with your voice. Remind us who you are, who we are and what you are doing in this world that feels so broken. In Jesus' name, amen.
